Epipactis helleborine is one of a total of 26 painted orchid pictures in my project "The Orchids of the Danube-Auen National Park", on which I worked from autumn 2020 to autumn 2023.

One of the largest and most striking works of this nature conservation art project, Epipactis helleborine, was created as one of three Epipactis species found in the Danube-Auen National Park. Only in the third year of observation were a few specimens of this orchid species found in bloom. In previous years, the plants withered before flowering. The distinctive broad and large leaves of Epipactis helleborine serve as an excellent distinguishing feature from Epipactis muelleri, which is why they are depicted in the image. The reddish background is meant to suggest the aridity that often caused the species to wither before flowering. More information can be found in my exhibition catalog for the project.

Due to the size of the painting, it is ideally suited as a main picture in a room, making it cheerful, elegant and lively.

The artwork measures 100 cm in height (length) and 75 cm in width. The sealed acrylic painting is mounted on a individually tailored, in available in art supply stores Stretched on a stretcher frame (approximately 1.8 cm thick).

I am increasingly using more environmentally friendly paints and materials.

I frame, prime, and undercoat many of my works myself, including this one. I skip the intermediate step of sanding the canvases, which means the painting is virtually impossible to forge, as the tiny, subtle ridges of the canvas's texture cannot be replicated. For me, these ridges represent an artistic fingerprint! In everyday viewing of the painting, these small bumps are not noticeable.
