Anacamptis morio is the largest image in the nature conservation art project about "The Orchids of the Danube-Auen National Park", which comprises a total of 26 works.
The Small Orchid is the orchid species to which I also dedicated my master's thesis at the Institute for Integrative Nature Conservation Research at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences.
The painted image depicts the three different color variants of A. morio, which I also scientifically examined in my master's thesis with regard to their reproduction success.
Anacamptis morio 2023 was created as one of the largest and most striking works of this nature conservation art project. The vibrant colors of the three orchid blossoms reach into the blue and white sky and are rooted in the earth, whose open areas are symbolically represented in different colors. The earth contains all shades of color, as Maria Lassnig already knew, as I was surprised to read in the book "Maria Paints" after creating my own works.
Due to the size of the painting, it is ideally suited as a main picture in a room, making it cheerful, elegant and lively.
The artwork measures 80 cm in height (length) and 120 cm in width. The sealed acrylic painting is mounted on a individually tailored, in available in art supply stores Stretched on a stretcher frame (approximately 1.8 cm thick).
I am increasingly using more environmentally friendly paints and materials.
I frame, prime, and undercoat many of my works myself, including this one. I skip the intermediate step of sanding the canvases, which means the painting is virtually impossible to forge, as the tiny, subtle ridges of the canvas's texture cannot be replicated. For me, these ridges represent an artistic fingerprint! In everyday viewing of the painting, these small bumps are not noticeable.
